Deirdre Egan's love for music came directly from her father,
an Irish immigrant who came to America to embark on a musical
career. With his influence, and the influence of her Irish-American
neighborhood in Yonkers, New York, Deirdre grew up listening to
a broad spectrum of music, from the Beatles to the Clancy Brothers
to Stevie Wonder. The piano became her passion, until she turned
sixteen, when she discovered the guitar and began writing songs.
In college at the State University of New York at New Paltz, she
discovered music therapy as an outlet for her creativity and desire
to help people. She received her B.S. in Music Therapy in 1998,
and worked as a therapist in Manhattan for three years before
following the call to the West.
Deirdre has now spent a year and a half in Bozeman, where she
has pursued her lifetime dream of becoming a singer/songwriter.
Influenced by Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Irish folk music, and
Fats Waller, Deirdre plays guitar, piano, and Irish harp, providing
unique arrangements for folk, jazz, Celtic, and rock & roll
covers, as well as for her original music.
Aside from her regular gigs at Bozeman's Leaf & Bean coffeehouse
and the Haufbrau, Deirdre has also performed at the Gallatin Gateway
Inn, the Filling Station, the Robin Lounge, Aunt Dofe's Hall of
Recent Memory (Willow Creek, MT), Chet's Bar (Big Sky, MT), Dusty
Boots Saloon (Livingston, MT), the Laughing Horse Lodge (Swan
Lake, MT), and Montana State University; out-of-state performances
include Idaho State University (Pocatello, ID), the University
of Idaho (Moscow, ID), Northwest College (Powell, WY), and the
An Beal Bocht Café (New York, NY). Deirdre complements
her busy solo schedule with her work in a blues/jazz duo called
The Mayfair Girls. The enclosed CD is Deirdre's most recent recording,
entitled "September's Lemonade". Her live performances
are extremely energetic, with interesting and eclectic material.
