Can’t leave it to chance

I go to work in an hour or less, I shake

my feeble mind awake and count the minutes.

It seems like yesterday that I was by the lake

and drinking summer drinks and eating peanuts.

.

I breath a heavy sigh and try to focus,

but my vision keeps returning to the hazy

late days, not lost, just buried with the crocus.

The basking in the sun swept sand and lazy

.

reclining among the lack of necessary tasks

and letting my mind go on it’s wandering path

imagination wild with facades and masks,

each possibility taking me further from the math

.

that waits upon my desk. Checkbook to balance,

the bills to pay, a job to do, can’t leave it to chance.

The Ephemeral Nature of Sand Sculpture

My Sunday afternoon led me to the beach. In Los Angeles the buses run on natural gas. I like to take the bus from my place to Venice beach, walk on the sand, hang out and touch the ocean. Today, I accidentally walked from the pier at Venice Beach to Santa Monica pier and back to Windward Circle for the bus ride home. There’s something really beautiful about sand sculpture and the way children and ordinary people build lovely things on the beach and then watch while the art slowly disappears back into the sand with the high tide.

Quartet Competition!

I’m excited to go to Bakersfield to compete in Sweet Adeline’s Region 11‘s quartet and chorus competition this weekend, March 19 and 20th. My quartet, BOLD, is ready to go and have a blast on the stage. Barbershop is such a strange and fascinating art-form! FUN! We just performed for our Friends and Family last night. We rocked the house!!! Stay tuned, next week I will post some video!
